About KiteCrest

KiteCrest is a reflection of my passion for being outdoors. It is definitely in its embryonic stage; I will be developing this site so that it is of interest and utility to others. I am sharing some thoughts through a regular blog as well as providing highlights of adventures, expeditions and upcoming events, maybe even the odd book and equipment review or even some top tips. The commercial side of this site is under design, we shall see how that evolves, but KiteCrest provides Guided Group Walks, Navigation Training and Mountain Leader Support for events as well as aiding young people heading to the hills and mountains for the first time. If you want to know more, get in touch with us through the contact page.

I am qualified with the Mountain Training Association (#4571) as a Mountain Leader as well as holding the Lowland Leader award with the Expedition Skills module. I also hold the National Navigation Award Scheme Tutor and Gold awards. Additional qualifications and certifications include Outdoor First Aid, Enhanced DBS, Child Protection and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) scheme Assessor at all levels. I have been involved with supporting young people through the DofE scheme and the Scout Association in various forms for many years and am passionate about inspiring others to connect with our beautiful landscape. In my view, walking is the best exercise, physical and mental, but I also recognise that for some people, access is not straightforward, so I am a keen to support Outdoors for All . Getting outside for some fresh air can help everyone.

Our environment is challenged from many directions, and I consider that we all have a duty to protect it. I am a firm believer in “if you carry it in, carry it out”, don’t leave anything more than a footprint behind. I subscribe to the values of Leave No Trace, and I guess you can expect me to comment about these issues from time to time.

Having recently retired from working in non-emergency patient transport here in Guernsey, I am now completely devoted to developing KiteCrest activities in the UK and Ireland as well as delivering locally based Map Reading and Navigation workshops in Guernsey. I am now available for Navigation Training and Mountain Leader work. This website will be updated to show courses and events and associated costs. I am currently working on a charging structure; in the meantime, just request for a quote through the contact page, and I will be in touch.

In essence, this space is a reflection of my journey, my aspirations, and the values I hold dear.

Two rules of life:

1. Take part.

2. Be kind, it’s not about you!

I have met some amazing, selfless people on my journey. I hope I can share some of their contributions.

My family is everything.

Feel free to explore this site, check out the gallery, view the blog, connect, and share — I look forward to hearing from you!
